Efficacy of Nitrogen against Stored Product Insects with Different Susceptibility Levels to Phosphine in Industrial Applications

نویسندگان

چکیده

We carried out trials on the commercial applications of nitrogen in different industrial structures, using phosphine-susceptible and -resistant populations three stored product beetle species, red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae), rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae (L.) Curculionidae), saw-toothed grain Oryzaephilus surinamensis Silvanidae). Twelve were conducted total, five chambers seven large silos Greece, following temperatures exposure times. In most our trials, complete mortality was recorded, with exception two which survival recorded for T. O. surinamensis, while S. classified as susceptible species. Moreover, low or no progeny production trials. Our results indicate that nitrogen, through reduction oxygen level, could be used control insects are resistant to phosphine, can further utilized resistance management strategies.

Resistance of stored-product insects to phosphine

The objectives of this work were to assess phosphine resistance in insect populations (Tribolium castaneum, Rhyzopertha dominica, Sitophilus zeamais and Oryzaephilus surinamensis) from different regions of Brazil and to verify if the prevailing mechanism of phosphine resistance in these populations involves reduced respiration rates. Sixteen populations of T. castaneum, 15 of R. dominica, 27 of...

comparative efficacy of controlled atmospheres against two stored product insects

effect of controlled atmospheres (cas) at various concentrations of co2, n2 and o2 on the lethal times of tribolium castaneum and trogoderma granarium was investigated at 20 and 30 ºc. experiments were performed using a recirculatory multi-flask apparatus. the results revealed that, the shortest times (0.1, 0.3 and 0.9 day for adults, larvae and pupae, respectively) required to obtain 50% morta...

toxicity of acetone to stored-product insects

in laboratory experiments the toxicity of acetone was investigated against four species of stored-product insects. in empty-space trials, estimates of the lethal concentrations of acetone (lc, 72-h exposure) for 50% mortality against adults of the lesser grain borer, rhizopertha dominica (f.), red flour beetle, tribolium castaneum (herbst), rice weevil, si-tophilus oryzae (l.) and eggs of the a...

Efficacy of Ozone against Phosphine Susceptible and Resistant Strains of Four Stored-Product Insect Species

The efficacy of ozone was evaluated against four economically-important stored-product insect species at 27.2 C and 20.4% r.h. Adults of phosphine-susceptible laboratory strains and phosphine-resistant field strains of the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum (Herbst), saw-toothed grain beetle, Oryzaephilus surinamensis (Linnaeus), maize weevil, Sitophilus zeamais Motschulsky, and rice weevil,...

Biorational approaches to managing stored-product insects.

Stored-product insects can cause postharvest losses, estimated from up to 9% in developed countries to 20% or more in developing countries. There is much interest in alternatives to conventional insecticides for controlling stored-product insects because of insecticide loss due to regulatory action and insect resistance, and because of increasing consumer demand for product that is free of inse...
